This Aurora cluster was running for 2 days with an estimated usage of 20-50 Aurora Capacity Units. For context, Serverless pricing is about $0.12/ACU/hour.
After 2 days of absolutely zero traffic that comes up to $115.20. After wincing and putting on my favorite song I said absolutely not and switched back to a single RDS instance.
Extrapolate that to the scale of an enterprise with actual autoscaling requirements and you’ll quickly see numbers orders of magnitude larger than that.
